There is a very very long list of things that piss me off or get me going in Jrock. Right now, I just read jrocksecret yesterday and a few of the posts really got to me. So I made this community to bitch about all the things I think are wrong with the industry, the bands, and the fans. Hope you guys have some things that get under your skin too... else this comm will just be where I come to bitch. XD
First Topic of discussion:
Sexuality, Fanservice and Fanfiction. =D
To be honest, I can really give a rats ass about if someone is gay, bi, or straight to make me like them more or less. If you seem like a cool/talented/whatever person, then I'm attracted to that. But when fans go off about "ZOMG so-and-so got married and it's totally fake because he's in love with -insert band member's name/another artist here-!!!! He said it in an interview! DX" It really pisses me off. WHO CARES if he suddenly decided to get married when he's always acted blatantly gay before? Maybe it was just for the lulz? Maybe it was just to keep you fangirls eating out of his hand? Who knows. Personally, I think Tora (alice nine.) is bi, or straight up gay. Even though he states he is definitely not homosexual every chance he gets (though, denying it when he really doesn't have to makes me even more suspicious). But, if he turned around and got married to a woman... I would be happy for him! Maybe a bit jealous, but happy if he's happy. Isn't that all that really matters? Arguing over if the pictures are fake/forced/whatever only makes you look stupid and pathetic.
Which, of course, brings me to their usual defense, "But I mean look at this picture, it's waaaay more than just fanservice". I have those thoughts too. But, those pictures are MADE to make us think that. Fanservice is made to get our hormones raging. It's a simple fact that if you see the guys kissing on a girl, most would backlash it. So, they get to make you horny, and love them even more because they are even closer to their band mates than this or that person with no jealousy or bitter feelings. Fans are possesive. So if you love the band, that makes it perfectly okay for them to love each other. Because the natural responce is still, "Aw they are so cute/hot/sexy. =O", instead of, "Ew,.. he could do so much better/she's ugly/she's a whore/ect." Unless, of course, you're homophobic. And I really just believe all homophobes need to die in a fire.
And homophobes seriously need to GTFO my slash/yaoi/shounen ai. Plzkthx. If you know you don't like boy on boy love, WHY DO YOU STILL READ IT?! Tru fax.. you're a drama llama/attention whore. And negative attention is still attention. So, you pick fights with people who didn't post it for YOU in the first place. There are entire forums dedicated to anti-yaoi! I can't believe that. I joined a couple trying to explain to them why I write it and where I am coming from. Some people accepted it, and others hated with nothing to back up their arguements other than being super religious, or just plain retarded. The bible thumpers really confused me, because they are perfectly okay with the fanservice that encourages the fanfiction, but hate the writers for letting their imaginations run with it. And then they say something totally unwitty like, "It'll never happen, get over it.". No shit Sherlock. That's why it's called "FICTION". I seriously want to copy and paste the definition in every comment back to that. If 'it'll never happen so we shouldn't write about it' is the truth, then pretty much every movie, book, and painting should have never been created. Oops. There goes every form of entertainment. Life = Dull. And Pairing hate is retarded. It's why we mention the pairings before you read it. So you don't burst your perfect bubble where Ruki only has sex with Reita. Then, there are the yaoi fans who hate slash/real person yaoi. WTF? At least slash has a small percentage of, you know, ACTUALLY HAPPENING. So because you're person doesn't really exist, it's still okay to twist and shape them into whatever personality you wish, but because I like to write about musicians who kiss and hug on each other, I'm a bad person with no morals? LMAO. Go play in traffic, please. Fantasizing about someone actually being gay when they are not, is no worse than someone pretending to be gay when they aren't. So the fanfiction writers are basically as "bad" as the band themselves. Well, like attracts like, am I right?
Visual Kei Fans - Kawaii Factor Vs. Musicianship
This might get lengthy. Everyone knows, you wouldn't listen to a band if you didn't like the music. I'm so fucking sick of people saying, "I hate VK because it's all about the clothes and not the music." BULLSHIT. VK fans come in a few different breeds. I can only talk about myself, but I'll be the first one to tell you, even "no image" is an image. To look like you rolled out of bed and picked up a guitar is an image. How do you think a band attracts your attention to make you want to listen to them? (unless you're a person who solely goes on reccomendations, but I don't know many of them) Right. Image. The look of a band tells you what they are about, 99.9% of the time. And if you're a person like me who grew up on The Beatles (Suits and Psychedelic eras were both looks to make them stand out from every other band, I don't care what people say), Jimi effin' Hendrix, Kiss, Poison, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Guns 'n' Roses... they all dressed up and put on an EXPERIENCE, not just stood there and played music in the same clothes they'd wear around the house. They looked, moved, and played like GODS as far as I'm concerned. Though the names and images may be different for you, I'm pretty sure this is how we all grew up viewing musicians. If you grew up listening and liking musicians who were toned down, that's the image you're usually attracted to. If you grew up like me, worshipping those who looked larger than life, than that is what I STILL want to have from any band I am giving my money to. Therefore, I like bands that have a make up heavy, decadent, and edgy style to them. Because I chose to support those bands and talk about the way they look, does not mean I don't love them for their music. And it does NOT make you better than anyone else if you like "no image" bands. You like what you like. Stop being a damn elitist. There are bands in every genre that are good and bad. I don't consider Jrock or Visual Kei an actual genre, but that's also another rant.
Visual Kei - This band looks like every other
I'm also sick of so-and-so did it first, so this band is a copy and sucks. If that was the case, you wouldn't have bands like Led Zepplin, The Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, or The Beatles. Because when they first came about... guess what? They were ALL emulating someone else. It's usually the motivating factor in why someone picks up an instrument in the FIRST place. Ask any guitarist why they picked up a guitar. They will tell you a person or band's name. Flat out. So to judge a person's music because the look like someone else, is stupid and petty. Visual Kei is still a fairly small scene when you compare it on an international level. There is still so much more diversity in the looks found there then say in a genre like Death Metal. But Death Metal fans don't complain that the guys look alike. Why? Because they understand that your influences inspire your look. So instead of, "OMG Everyone is copying Sugizo!! DX".. they are going, "No shit, In Flames likes Morbid Angel too! Sweet!". It's called Homage. Look it up sometime.
Fangirls vs. Groupies
I'm just putting this one to; the expectation of cultural differences. Just because they are Japanese, does not mean that they aren't MEN. And I'm sorry, but Japanese culture ENDORSES mistresses for married men. So to think that they won't have their cake and eat it too, if they get the chance, is kind of naive. Especially, when they come to America where we promote, "normal laws do not apply to Celebrities!". Groupies serve a purpose, just like fangirls do. If you don't agree with it, support a band that does not take part in it. But don't blame the girls who are often the ones being hit on, and not vice versa. I have been in enough bands, and enough concerts to know. Groupies are a staple of the rock'n'roll lifestyle. If you can't accept that, never try to get backstage at a rock concert. You won't be able to handle it. And this is just my personal opinion, but most fangirls hate on groupies because they know they are not pretty/clever/fun enough to hold their item of affection's attention. I know, because I'm jealous of those bitches too. xD But I would never hate them because I'm jealous. One, hating someone you don't even know is pretty dumb. Two, if they are charasmatic enough to win over your favorite rock star, they are probably charasmatic enough to win you over too. Now, if it boils down to that you simply don't agree with promiscuity, then again. You probably shouldn't be in a fandom who's war cry is, "Sex, Drugs, and Rock'n'Roll!". Though, I am glad it seems the drugs part has died down a bit in recent years. But that's just because I'm sick of early deaths and jail sentances breaking up my favorite bands.
Jrock and Visual Kei as Genres
Let's begin this one with what these words actually mean. Jrock = Japanese Rock. Visual Kei = Visual style. Neither of these words define a type of music, only where it comes from (Jrock), and if they consider themselves Visual or not (Visual Kei). The missuse of these words are EVERYWHERE. To say you like Jrock is to say you like every rock band out of Japan. That, quite frankly, is never true. To say you like Visual Kei is to say you like everything under that umbrella. Because Oshare, Nagoya, ect... are all branches of the Visual Kei tree. The best translation for it would be a "Scene" to American/Euro fans. Inside Visual Kei are many genres; Rock, Pop-rock, Hard-rock, Metal, Speed Metal, Punk, and a lot more. But almost NO ONE classifies bands as such. Why is that? It drives me up the damn wall! To suggest a band to me and just say "They're VK" doesn't tell me a damn thing! To say, "They are Jrock" only tells me that they sing mainly in Japanese. C'mon people. Do some homework. These phrases are becoming some catch all word. If you like Dimmu Borgir and I told you to listen to Mudvayne, you'd think I was an idiot. Btw, one is Black Metal, and one is "Radio" Rock. But they are both Visual. So automatically you should like them, right? =D /sarcasm. Point of rant? UR DOIN IT WRONG! D8
Links only go to photos. And there is nothing offensive in either.
Okay.. let's discuss. Passionate arguement = yes, please. Flaming = LOL, no.
And if your comment will be more than a paragraph, post it as a new rant with a link? =D
[Edit] Wow, I was the typo QUEEN for this. I think I fixed most of them now. That's what happens when I'm too lazy to proof read. Sorry, peoples. ^^;
